We creatives often look inside ourselves for answers, connections, and quiet observations. Our lives tend to work just as our creative brains do when solving artistic questions for ourselves and our work. Many of us are either introverts or soul searchers, connecting moments and ideas together to solve the problems that are our art.
We have times when we’re on a roll as momentum abounds, and the so called creative juices flow. Other times can be different for us though. Creative block. Creative slump. Drawing a blank. The fleeting connections that just can’t connect us with our end goal leaving us with only frustration.
We all look for that “Flow State’. This is when you're immersed in the creative process, time disappears, and you're effortlessly guided by intuition and instinct.
There are special moments that we need to pay attention to, it creates happiness from within. Quiet observations such as the way sunlight catches the dust dancing in a room, warm sun on our skin through a window during the coldness of winter, the pattern of frost on a window, or the sunlit twinkle off an icicle. The feel of a warm mug in your hands on a cold day, the scent of rain in the air, the sight of a sunset or sunrise, the vastness of the night sky, and other moments of beauty. We experience awe and wonder when we pay attention. It’s being in the moment that leads us there.
Sometimes in the hustle and bustle world we forget to pause, to feel, to be aware, to let our senses take over, and to just be. That place is where we can feel true happiness, true calm, true awe, true down-to-earthness. Simplicity at its core.
We should take these moments in time for understanding, to help ground us, to help us focus, to see both the big and small picture, to answer the questions we seek.
These moments, though small, can accumulate to create a rich tapestry of experience. They remind us to appreciate the simple things and find joy in the everyday.
Glittering moments are often fleeting, but they're what keep us inspired. They remind us of the magic and wonder that can be found in the creative process.
Looking at and for life in this way is parallel to solving our artistic questions. Settling for mediocrity is not going to get us to that place. We always strive, always question. We have that ah-ha moment when we know a piece has been pushed to it’s creative boundary. Sometimes we don’t stop at the perfect place when we instinctively knew we should have with our art, we were still aware when that moment took place. We ignored it searching for more and didn’t find it. Knowing when we’re there, at that moment of perfection, is growth, it’s humaness. We all look for the answers, the glittering yet fleeting moments that are like little sparks. It’s in us all to feel joy in those moments.
Art is a way to express our emotions, ideas, and perceptions of the world. We can use the little moments, sparks and connections to get there creatively.
