I have some fun videos I recently put out that showcase Watercolors, and I thought I’d share them in one Substack Blog. They are all pretty short videos.
The first video a look at two very different versions of Pastel Watercolors. I recently purchased White Nights Pastel Watercolors. I wanted to swatch them and decided to see how they compare to the set of pastel watercolors by Derwent that I already own.
Two Vastly Different Pastel Watercolors - Let's Swatch Them!
The Derwent pans are a completely different consistency of watercolor, similar to soft pastels or inktense, while the White Nights are shiny like a watercolor often is. Some of the colors even have the same name, but is that where the similarities end? Let's swatch these together and see them side by side.

The second video is a comparison of all of my Ultramarine Blue, Ultramarine Blue Deep, and Ultramarine Light, all are PB29. In this video, I swatch both my professional brands and my studio grade brands. It’s amazing to look at subtle formula differences of these paints, yet all comprise of the same pigment, PB29.
Comparing Ultramarine Blue PB29 Watercolors - Very Rich, Deep Color!
I'm comparing all of my Ultramarine Blue, PB29, by swatching all of my watercolor brands. I'm comparing both Professional and Student grades. Ultramarine is a beautiful granulator. I want to compare pigment load, depth of color, smoothness, and granulation.

The third and final video I wanted to share today is one where I share my eclectic palette mix I’ve made over the years of useful and/or favorite colors from Daniel Smith.
See My Eclectic Palette of Daniel Smith Watercolors
In this video, I needed a new swatch card for my Daniel Smith Watercolor palette, and I thought I'd turn on the camera and share. The colors are so pigmented, always a joy to use.
