I made these videos because I had questions. I bought a new set of jelly gouache and purposefully dried them out to see what happens for myself.
I did a color for color comparison, after bringing dried Himi jelly gouache back from totally dried out state. I swatched them next to my never-dried-out set.
So a little background on jelly gouache. The most popular brand is the original, Himi. They have several colors and sizes of palettes, and there are a lot of colors. You can purchase individual color refills by the pouch.
Jelly gouache is not professional grade gouache, nor is it lightfast. If you’ve ever used jelly gouache, it is a joy to use. It’s buttery consistency, it’s vibrant colors, it is a fun paint to use. It’s matte once it’s dried, so it’s great to use in a sketchbook. If you haven’t tried it, I highly suggest getting yourself a small set to see if you like it.
I dried out a new Himi jelly gouache to see what happens, to satisfy my curiosity. I bring you along in these next two videos as I bring them back from the brink, so now you don't have to.
